Welcome to the Pitt Stop

Pitt Stop is a community-driven initiative designed to bring essential services closer to the people who need them most. Born from the vision of Dr. Angela Lamson of East Carolina University and former Pitt County Health Director John Silvernail, Pitt Stop was created to make healthcare, education, and community support more accessible for families across Pitt County.

Our first location in Bethel is being developed through the thoughtful renovation of the former Bethel Police Station—a building deeply rooted in the community’s history. Once home to the Bethel Clinic, this site has long served as a place where families turned for care and connection. In fact, Mayor Carl Wilson was born in this very building. Now, it’s being renewed with purpose—reimagined as a welcoming, multi-specialty hub that once again supports local health and well-being.

At the Bethel Pitt Stop, physicians, private providers, and community partners will rotate on a scheduled basis so residents can access high-quality services without traveling far. For example, Physicians East will bring local doctors to Bethel on designated days, while other partners will offer vital supports such as social services assistance, Medicaid application help, food pantry distributions, and dental care through the Smile Safari mobile unit.

Each Pitt Stop will have a Health Department Coordinator to help residents schedule appointments, connect to services, and navigate available resources. From healthcare to nutrition, employment to education, Pitt Stops are designed to meet community needs in one convenient, accessible space.

Most importantly, Pitt Stop is built for the community, by the community. Guided by collaboration and sustained through strong partnerships, our mission is to strengthen health, well-being, and quality of life for every resident.

Our goal is simple: to create safe, local spaces where neighbors can walk to care, support, and opportunity. With the first location in Bethel underway, we look forward to expanding Pitt Stops across Pitt County—continuing a proud tradition of community care and local connection.
